well well, as we come to an end of our long, arduous and (last, but certainly NOT the LEAST) dramatic journey in IMU (characterized byunverified rumours (understatement) , well more like blatant lies)

i guess it was silly and naive of me to think that we wouldnt be leaving with a BIG BANG ...

well, since this is my post and i can write anything i want. i thought i'll just share my thoughts based on my own meandering experiences. just when i thought we would end imu in peace, new events emerge, compromising the integrity of such a storybook ending.

i remember a point of my imu life. not too long ago. where i was the unfortunate subject of a blatant lie. some dickhead (from what i know) convincingly convinced people that i LOVED his girlfriend (from what i hear) and that i fell out with them because i was JEALOUS that they were together. how such a story was construed, i have no clue.

anyway, pardon me for the digresion, this brings me to my point where i have to disagree with peiwen (www.story-of-pei.blogspot.com) - there citation haha (= the batch photo is pretty much perfect in the formal picture as compared to the informal one

Wow, amidst all the studying, there's so much drama-rama going around campus. Just the other day, as I walked into class, a friend greeted me with lecture notes followed by a loud "Fuck You!". My fault to start with, I pulled out of the ball performance without telling the boys. I sorry.

Anyway, in these modern days, nobody gets even (steven) by being barbaric anymore. Long gone were the days where noses are sent flying and blood is spilled on the floor. We simply flame each other online. Facebook, MSN chatrooms, twitter, maybe friendster, ~~adultfriendfinder,~~ and the most popular - blogs.

I shall not take the effort to go into details. All I've got to say is peace, hope, and love.

Long Hiatus, nothing noteworthy has been happening in IMU...

besides the new student lounge---Which has an adjoining music room, so when the rockstars of IMU decide they want to practise, you can't hear the TV and so have to turn the volume up. The people around the pool table can't hear shit with the combined noise of people slamming on Joel's drums and Astro-nomic sound, so they talk 10decibells higher than everything else..

The new caterers @ Canteen. Who are heaps better than the last Malay-lady-with-an-attitude at the counter but still charge non-student prices.

I just got stopped by a police road block along the Cheras highway

for "going 95 in an 80km/h zone" at 2am in the morning. Words of the policeman who stopped me exactly, only translated in ~~my real national language~~ English :)

There were barely 15 cars on the road that late in the night, and still you can note how ~~annoying~~ ever-vigilant-and-observant our mighty police task force is.

The following conversation took place (almost word for word, only translated into English for the benefit of our 2 non-malay-speaking compatriots), with me in Green and the cop in Red.

~~(because the Green lightsabers are always used by the good side and the Red lightsabers are forever being wielded by the darkside)~~

Good evening boy.

Good evening sir.

License and I/D please. So, you were going 95 in an 80km/h zone, you know.

Really? No way, my car is old. Only goes up to 70km/h, I swear! (Can you blame me? I had to try)

Nope, 95km/h...and that's a RM300 fine too. So how? You wanna settle? Tell you what, gimme RM50 and we'll call it a night. (Wow, this guy gets down to business fast! I kid you not, he asked so quickly I didn't have time to wet my pants from being pulled over properly yet.)

Here comes the doozy. I honestly am truthfully telling you no lies, when I type the following:

Joel, I book CSU room every wednesday and friday until I can't book anymore. 2pm. Usually I don't have anyone to join me despite the fact that I do have a room and also an SP. I think it's because I am freaking lazy to call or text anyone. What I do is that I just find random people who's in IMU. LOL! But I did ask Alicia to come because she asked me to remind her whenever I'm practising. So, fellow blogmates who are going to have EOS 3 soon, tell me if you want to come and join too.

Not too long ago, we all went through studying the respiratory system in uni.

Learning all about the lungs, the lungs, the lungs, and the lungs was no easy feat.

Maybe for some of us la...definitely not for me. :b

One of our learning outcomes was to identify and recognise a peak flow meter and how it's used in a hospital.

For our non-medical readers (if we even have any :P ) a peak flow meter is by definition a "small, hand-held device used to manage asthma by monitoring airflow through the bronchi and thus the degree of obstruction in the airways".

As you can see, from my descriptively precise definition, ~~I just looked it up on Wikipedia~~ I've been studying my arse off. =)

Basically, what you do is, you pull the meter notch all the way down to zero000, put your mouth at the nozzle, take a deep breath and exhale sharply into the peak flow meter.
The air pushes the notch up and where it stops is an indication of how much depth your lungs have.

Obviously, the higher the number, the better. Less obstruction in your airways; no constricted airways etc.

A few students (myself included) were quite surprised as to why so much more emphasis was put on the technique of using the device by the lecturers, rather than the way of analyzing the readings. Took me quite a while too to understand why breathing into a tube had to be done so properly...until I saw this. Then it ~~banged~~ hit me.

Well, if you have, then I'm sure you've seen their ~~new~~ quite a few months old parking system, whereby each lot has a sensor on top of it and when a car parks under the sensor, a light turns red indicating that the lot is taken. And if no car is parked in that lot, the light turns green. Makes searching for a lot in a carpark much easier, at least..for me la hehe :p

Anyhooo, I always thought the sensor was meant for a cars size only, otherwise everytime a person walks past the sensor, the light will turn red then green then red then green then red then green etcccc etccc etc.

But I still had to test it out. And I did.

Today, one of the lecturers took leave and couldn't make it for his lecture - He got another lecturer to swap lessons with him. I'm generally okay with things like that, as long as we're kept informed lah; but noooo - We were caught with our pants down and we had no notes to refer to. So pissed that I slept throughout the lecture in the end.

I get angry generally fast nowadays, like how I start to swear in hokkien at random people in the library and cafeteria just because. There's this one lecturer who doesn't put up her notes before the lectures and we can't print shit - that ticks me off really bad too. What's worst is that she has a bad sense of humor and she laughs to her own jokes wayyyy too much.

I could keep going about how much IMU-related things get on my nerves - Incompetent photocopying lady, overpriced food, stinky canteen, unfriendly admin staff, list goes on and on. But fact of the matter is I love this place to bits, hence the oh-so-lovely blog address.

That's why we study so hard every single day till late at night. The exam for our semester is just around the corner, and we have to juggle between studies and other events like the IMU cup and the chinese singing competition. Boy, being a med student sure ain't easy, but it sure as hell is worth it.

Redang trip was greattt - Some time to escape from reality and think things over. Will post about it when I rip the pictures off everyone else ya.

So anyway, school's starting for us 3rd semester students (Damn, just saying it feels good) in about 10 days; here's a list of things we should do before we go back to our beloved IMU!

Pay your fees
For those who haven't, the deadline was last monday (the 14th of July), and they're gonna impose a RM500 fine on you - SO DO IT ALREADY. RM500 CAN GO REDANG AND COME BACK WEI.

Write your COP report
Right after we got our exam results, some 10 of us went to a charity home in Cheras to visit the senior citizens there. We had a great time playing bowling and just spending good quality ber-bonding time with them. After almost 2 months, the tragic thought of writing a 3000 (some people say 1000) word report is just depressing. I mean, why write a report about charity? Isn't it ironic to call it charity if we have to prove that we did it? But oh well, what must be done must be done - Deadline's 1 August, remember to write it.

Study CVS
This is a must do especially for those who skipped a substantial amount of lectures like me to study for the EOS back then. 4 weeks into the semester and we'll be having an exam for it PLUS the Respi system. Honestly, on my side, I've done shit for CVS, and I'm going to have so much trouble juggling between ongoing lecture notes and revising it when school starts. Push push push, people!

Buy books (or not?)
Throughout the 1st year of med-school, I've bought many books that end up sitting on the shelf collecting dust - Lange's, Netter's, Abbas', and even Marieb. Sure, they look like they've went through hell and came back, but I assure you I do not know the contents of these sacred texts. Notes are sufficient to PASS the exam, so just buy books if you're aiming to know enough to be a doctor before you graduate; or you just wanna impress your parents like me wtf.

From Terengganu

I don't know how much longer I can stand staying at home, doing nothing and not going out with friends. My hometown is so boring. There isn't a freaking shopping mall to go to, unless you consider Giant and Mydin and The Store as shopping malls (the people here really do, sometimes). MacKy's only opened recently and it's the first ever MacKy's here. I haven't tried it yet. Talking about it, I'm craving for MacKy's fries. (MacKy's stands for McDonald's. Don't ask why the name Macky's) Enough about my self-centred egoistic blah blah blah stuff about myself.

Let me introduce to you KUALA TERENGGANU.

If you don't know where TERENGGANU is, here you go:
It's on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia (or Malaysia Peninsula?, whatever).
Here's a map with all the fun places to go to in Terengganu.

Don't be shocked or surprised by how many places you can go to in Terengganu. When you actually live here, you feel that you can't be bothered to go to these places. It's like you don't find them interesting at all, somehow it's like the grass is greener on the other side of the river. People here find other places in other parts of Malaysia other than Terengganu much more interesting. Sometimes I'm surprised to find that people want to go to Pulau Redang etc...

Okay now, about Kuala Terengganu, the capital city of Terengganu. And the place where I spent 9 years of my life in.

This is the Chinatown in Kuala Terengganu:
Many of the buildings here are more than 100 years old.

The boats can harbor there and fishermen can bring in their fresh catch for sale at the wet market. This is why the locals can always get fresh water products everyday. And I definitely love it. Well, it also depends on how you cook them though. The fish and prawns and everything are fresh but the local cooks or chefs suck, so in the end everything sucks. HAhaha...

It looks very British.

This is Batu Buruk beach. I'd been there many times before I left Kuala Terengganu. I think there had been many developments going on there since I left and I haven't been there once I'm back. My sister says that it's rather nice there. Hannyee you can get sun tanned there, but I've got many other better places for you. Lol. Just read on. (what a lame attempt to get anyone to continue reading this somewhat boring-i'm-blogging-coz'-it's-so-freaking-boring-here post).

Oh by the way, the beach where turtles lay eggs is not this Batu Buruk beach, it's called RANTAU ABANG. I went there when I was about seven and I didn't manage to watch a turtle laying eggs because you have to be awake or wake up at 2 something in the morning to wait until you can see a turtle, and I couldn't wake up. You must also hide behind the trees. I guess this (hiding behind trees) will be a problem for some of our fellow bloggers here. HAHAHA. EVIL.

I went there with my family and my dad actually said that he would wake us all up to watch turtles. In the end, none of us managed to wake up and HE ended up being the one who woke up the latest the next morning. pfft.

This is the floating mosque in Kuala Terengganu. There's a park around it and the place is actually quite near to the south of Batu Buruk beach. This mosque was built long time ago. The government recently developed the "Taman Tamadun Islam" near the town centre. I don't know how to translate it into English because I don't know what is TAMADUN. The park consists of more than ten replicas of mosques from around the world, and it is supposed to serve as a tourist's destination, not a place for prayer. lol.

Oh well, this is the centerpiece of the park:

There are many other mosques in this park. My dad said that they (the government?) could have sponsored more than 50 medical students in UK using all the money spent on this park. Hmmm, is this controversial? Okay, my dad didn't say that, somebody else did.

If you're a nature lover, i.e. one of the pseudo-Hannyees, here's Kenyir Lake for you:
There are several resorts there for you to stay. My mom would never let me go there though. She said that it's 'dirty'. Hahaha....I guess that's not true because a lot of my high school friends went there and they had a really fun time.

Next, we have the largest museum in Malaysia, the Kuala Terengganu Museum. Located in Bukit Losong, somewhere near one of the places famous for Keropok Lekor.
And this is keropok lekor, a local delicacy (or shit. Hahaha)
You can have it deep-fried or steamed.

Now we move on to all the arts and crafts that you can see in Terengganu.

Okay, the following section is dedicated to MARCUS!

There are many islands in the waters of Terengganu. Among them are the famous Redang Island, Perhentian Island and the recently-discovered-to-be-nice Lang Tengah Island. There's also Kapas Island etc.

Here's Redang!
I kid you not. The water is seriously crystal clear and the beach is sandy white.
There are many resorts in Redang Island and the packages offered are not expensive.
However, I find Redang Island too commercialized and too crowded.

Next, PERHENTIAN ISLAND. It's less crowded, more private.
I would personally prefer to go to Perhentian Island (partly coz I'd never been there but I'd been to Redang for three times) because it's really good. The water is much cleaner compared to Redang AND the snorkeling experience is much better (this is what I heard from my sister).

Then we have The LANG TENGAH ISLAND. This island has only ONE resort so far and it's kinda lonely. VERY VERY PRIVATE. It's a very small island with very little pollution, which can be caused by tourism.
People usually don't go to Lang Tengah island because it is kind of secluded and lonely. But I tell ya', I bet it's going to be great because not having many people means you can do anything you like without much care.

today was my first time seeing a road accident happen in front of me, and it really opened my eyes to how screwed up malaysians can be; ironic, considering we're supposed to be a nation that cares.

driving home after sending TY off (which will come in abit, it deserves a post all on its own) i watched as a man on a motorbike went past me, lost control in the upcoming curve then slammed into the barrier wall and tumbled along the road together with his bike still attached to his legs for 50 metres or so.

brokebIke mountain, geddit? the bike's broken? heh heh heh

Someone up there really likes this guy cause no cars were behind him at all when this happened except for me, and i was driving quite slow ~~cause i was running low on petrol~~ like i always do, safe hehehe so he didn't get hit in the middle of the road, thank goodness

i stopped and helped him to the side of the road, he wasn't too bad though, he could tell me his name and count fingers i held up (don't ask me why, i don't know why that was my first instinctive move, to ask "how many fingers am i holding up?" hehehe :p )

then i took out my handphone to call the ambulance but upsettingly-amazingly i didn't have ANY phone connectivity, yes yes i know, drama drama ooohh 8-)

i tried restarting my phone but still nothing, and then ... i panicked hehe kiddinggg!

here comes the shitty part though : i tried flaggin down a few cars to borrow a phone to call but they DIDN'T fucking stop! freakin fantastic right? they could slow down and turn their heads to watch the man groaning there, but cannot stop to help? what assholes. luckily in the end a family stopped to see what they could do.

one thing i've learned, never judge a book by its fucking cover la; the people that looked like they would help, drove past and stared. one lady even pointed openly and asked everyone in her car to look. and the guy that lent me his phone? has long hair, a tattoo and a very very VERY tulan-lansi-kuailan face BUT was very nice. so unexpected. whats more, the family was on the other side of the road when they saw the accident happen. they made a freaking U-turn to come and help. saints la, lucky me.

i was surprised at the emergency help though, i've always heard that they are inefficient, slow, rude etc ... but the operator was really friendly and kept asking me to "calm down mr. yu, relax" wtf right, like i needed to hehehe =p PLUS they only took 14 minutes to get there, okay fine its not lightning fast, but still definitely not as slow as i expected.

i really cant believe the behaviour that i saw today, the kepohchi-ness and blatant unhelpfulness really pissed me off.

ask yourselves this, would u have stopped and helped if u saw something like that?

honestly, before this i would be one of those who just drive on and stare too. but after today and after being in the shoes of a person needing help but only receiving stupid retards driving by to ogle, i know better now. what about you?

1) i dont have a blog on my own

5) i have been amazed, yet again, by certain individuals

and in the light of a recent discovery, i feel the intrinsic urge to do some harmless ranting here and type for absolution. (so pardon me)

since i've been here, malaysia hasnt failed to amaze me (in good and not so good ways)

in my humble opinion, the drama i have experienced here in this short time more than equals my accumulated lifetime experience of drama and controversy. i have met very unique and interesting individuals here. an experience i wont forget for a very long time.

whilst im very accustomed to being misunderstood; as people always allegedly know me better than i do. better than themselves as well.

i personally feel that there is quite a very clear line between speculation and certainty. and when you cross that line and actually speak on behalf of (me) someone (you barely know) with such clarity and certainty, it would be best (for your sake, and mine of course) that you actually knew that you were right.

because when the truth emerges (and it never fails to do so) there might possibly be unwelcomed repercussions (probably when i have actually grown some muscle - and then my biceps (= .. mmm or knuckle-sandwiches x 392583 shall do the talking)

i've always believed that you never really know the true character of someone till a trying or defining moment comes about. sure, people always give away subtle hints and clues unknowingly about their true selves daily.

but its always the defining moment which makes all the difference. and i'm always glad when that moment presents itself. for that gives opportunity to know people for who they really are. way before i would even attempt to speak for them.

anyways,

- how well dya know the people around you?
- do you know them for who they are?
- do you see beyond what they portray themselves to be?
- are they dickheads?
- are they worth your while?
- are they small people?
- do you take everything literally?
- are you living in a well?

a) identify (or read - they should state it) the stain

b) (if it is gram stain) state whether it is

1) gram Positive (darkish purple) OR
2) gram Negative (reddish pinkish)

c) describe the shape of the organism:

1) Cocci (spherical) OR
2) Bacilli (rodshaped) / OR
3) spiral?

- if its two cocci kissing each other - DIPLOcocci

d) dont need to state the name of the organism unless they ask (they will most probably ask in a subsequent question - after they give more clues/features)

e) try to correlate the characteristics to the possible organism in picture - have an idea in your mind

- i'll just list down what i can remember (without pictures) - try to find the pictures to match the descriptions if you can. you can and MUST score for microbio OSPE (= because the things that can come out are very limited. i'll do my best to cover the majority of it.

No, not from the lab, we don't get cadavers nor monkeys here.

It's from the park opposite "the place we love". I saw a monkey clutching a tortoise/turtle/that thing with hard shell running pass me in the opposite direction. It was holding it by it's hind leg. Freshly caught. I saw it running up from the pond. I wasn't running into the pond though.

Just to confirm they weren't playing catch with one another, on my next lap I stood around that area looking for the monkey, and there I saw the same monkey holding the hard shell creature, this time with it's mouth. I doubt anyone/creature/thing plays catch with it's mouth, or any other orifice for that matter.

I didn't have my camera phone with me at that moment. So, I apologise for the lack of graphic representation.

What a good start to my day. It was quite a sight. Sorry if you see this everyday in kampungs, I'm a city-boy.

"Coincidentally" I'm listening to the band Arctic Monkeys now.

Hello everybody :)
I've been reading the IMU 'newsletter' cum magazine. Don't know if you've heard of it, its called 'Connexion'. Funnily, its "Volume 1, Issue 1" Really gets me wondering what the SRC has been doing for the past year--Last minute start of a magazine and see how the new people will take it from there? [There was another type of newsletter thing wasn't there?]

Anyway, don't take my word for it--I'm not in tune with IMUs melody.

So a summary of what is to affect us all:
1) Resit fees are no longer: RM 1k (Medicine)
but....
RM 750.
The resit fee of RM1k will be imposed with effect from 2009 [Thats direct plagiarism right there]
[Thank goodness for src]

2) There will be a new canteen in LG (lets celebrate with the vistans :])

3) Student car park will be relocated to the "IMU HILL" (opp. vista C)
NO you don't have to pay and YES it will be equipped with lightings, guards and shaded staircase.

KNNCCBLJ. And what--the mf--about from the "SHADED STAIRCASE" to mf-ing IMU DOOR?

Okay. Hopefully the new SRC will sort it all out :) Get us our LG parking back!

Everyone's heard of American Idol right?
churning out talent after talent from each season, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood etc.

then coming off it is a spinoff for quite a number of other countries, Australian Idol, India Idol and our BELOVED Malaysian Idol :)

i could even stomach it when 8TV made their own talent music contest, One in a Million

what freaking blew me away though, was 8tv making YET ANOTHER ~~copycat~~ almost original singing competition... Project Superstar

when i first caught an episode of it, i burst out laughing watching them sing ~~Gay~~ Jay Chou songs ;p

not bad enough that it was one of his songs, they made it even worse with their facial expressions and how bad they sung it!

the funniest part is yet to come however, when they finish singing and the judges passed their comments which i did not understand in the slightest i admit

the names of the contestants are way too good to miss

Errr, since even HANNyee posted once after a freaking loooooooong time, I thought I ought to write something here too, after a an even looooooooooooooooooonnnnnggggggger time. Anyway, I shall post some cranky shit here just because I'm feeling extra cranky today.

Wtf man, I was really happy after Summatives was over but then the mood was quickly overshadowed by the f-ing thought of EOS. And about Summatives itself, who bloody studies and remembers the incubation period for dengue? What a darn stupid question, designed by some loser lecturer who wanted to make himself look like an extra big asshole because nobody would have noticed or considered that minor detail an important one anyway. If a patient comes with dengue, do you ask like "did you get a mosquito bite three to eight weeks before this?" Goodness damn, this is Malaysia and the population of mosquitoes is probably five hundred times more the population of all Malaysians (plus illegal immigrants/workers). I actually wanted to convert "plus illegal immigrants/workers" into a striketthrough font i.e. with a line across all the words so that I'd look like a cooler blogger with some sense of humor but I am too darn stupid to know how to do it. I can't f-ing find the icon on this somehow under-loaded blogspot post-publishing window. Oh well, I am just stupid. Anyway, to the person who created that dengue question, why don't you think of asking the next batch "What is the life-span of a tapeworm (call it a Nanamomoe or whatever so that nobody would know what the heck it is)" with the answer choices going like "1-3days", "3-5 hours", "1-2 weeks", "probably a year" and finally "who cares?" hahaha, then summatives will be more fun.

Oh yeah, yesterday me and vanessa went to Pusat Damansara. I needed to renew my passport because I am going to travel to Laos in July, and the passport expires in August. The whole process was kinda smooth considering the fact that our lovely government is popular for its efficient-my-balls delivery. I got the passport within two hours and a few minutes. There were these new Kiosk machines to handle the renewals. But then, I did something extra dumb on the way home. Actually it wasn't completely my fault either. The f-ing road builder didn't know how to construct roads nicely so he thought of having one narrow stretch of road just outside the exit of the Pusat following the American road direction, i.e. drive on right. That road designer must be w*nking at the drawing table and then submitted the blueprint for approval (probably by Sammi. Velllooo I ought not to spell the name correctly so that all the bloggers here will not be killed, or be sued). Back to the incident. So I was driving out of the exit and then I drove into the ought-to-be-correct lane and I saw a car coming towards me followed by a bus. WTF. Vanessa was sitting next to me kinda yelling but at a lower decibel. Thank gracious a driver gave way and I managed to get out of the mess. So embarrassing. And the driver immediately behind me after I finally got back to the wrong-but-correct lane was a female. I felt like a major retard. Well, went for a haircut and dinner and movie after that. Nothing worth feeling cranky about happened then.

Well, today, the wireless connection at home has been a big pain in the ARSE. Usually I can go online pretty easily but today, when I switched on the wireless adapter and it detected a whole bunch of networks with names like "family liew", "tan", "ravin" and "shanti". The last time this happened, I couldn't connect to my own wireless network at all. It took me the whole day to fix the problem. Throughout the day, I was cursing at those names that popped up every time I refreshed the list of available networks. When I saw "shanti" all the time for like three to four hours straight, I was at the verge of shouting "you perv stop surfing porn and take up all the wireless space. Go get a boyfriend or whatever tool that makes you happy." loudly through the window. I was really pissed. Then, "free wi-fi" popped up and I tried to connect. It was successful but I couldn't even receive any byte. "If you think you are giving free wi-fi service, please at least make sure that it can be used. f-ing retards or whatever losers that try to make desperate people like me looking even more desperate and can't be helped." Well, in the end, at exactly 10.53pm, I fixed the problem. So happy. I called Brandon a few times to ask him how to sort it out. He helped by saying "err I'm at a dinner now laaaa", "wait until I get home ok...", "what about the encryption key..." okay I didn't wait till you get home. Sorry that he couldn't show off his wireless-connection-saving skills. Hahaha. What a bitch I am.

Anyways! Today (or rather yesterday. Or just to show how dedicated I am to this blog...A coupla hours ago. Specifically 37minutes ago) IS TzeYang'S 20TH! :)
Just did something small cuz everyone (including TY) has exams to prepare for SO! we went dinner a la pavillion.
The traffic jam shetlong because they closed the stupid smart tunnel (hehe oxymoron!!!!) so it took us around 2longsome hours sitting in the beemer. Well thats because we're all stupid and spoilt. Marcus on the other hand... :) ....took his trusted star-lrt-line-stopover-hangtuah-change-KLmonorail and arrived there 3 hours before us--So ignore his humblepie-ness about being stupid.

Yup! So we planned to go to TGIF. I was more than glad to after my fiasco and having all of them laughing at me...time for TYs turn innit.
I think we gave him some better embarrassment...

what started out as an innocent dinner in cheras turned out to be not so after all with all the after-dinner-studies-unrelated activities.

then brandon went down, leaving alvin to battle it out with tee wye.

now tee wye was on a winning streak and had all the money from me, marc and brandon while alvin was left with a measly 5 mahjong tiles and about 10 chips

but you know what they say, "the house never loses"

and alvin certainly made that saying proud. tee wye with a double Ace in his hand

and alvin only having a Jack and a Queen

while the 4 cards dealt on the table was 2, 3, 9 and 10. pretty slim chances for alvin to get a straight flush, but the home player still braved on when ty (being the greedy bastard that he is) said "ALL IN!"

and even when marcus dealt the last card ~~with a flourish bang~~ ty threw his cards down with a triumphant smile and started pulling all the money in whereas alvin turned away dejected

but comprehension dawned on marcus first and he started laughin, seeing as the last card was just what alvin needed =D

In the whole history of weloveimu, 'Astounding'Andrew himself has been posting ridiculously ~~butt~~ ugly pictures of us being less than attentive in lectures(hannYee, myself, and more recently in the post below this--Alvin).

In his attempt to portray us as the lazy-gits-who-sleep-during-lectures and thus ruining our reputation of being A+ adequate students, with maybe some accessory motive of posting really fugly pictures of us (because he thinks its our fault that he has really ugly pictures)----he did the ULTIMATE mistake :)

actually, to be honest, i think amongst ALL the orientation officers of group 10, TENTIES (from here on out, referred to as OO's)

JerkyJimmy, JackassJoel, AntisocialAlicia, AnalAlvin, AstoundingAndrew, BullshitBrandon and HungryHannyee.

the OO that has been doing MOST work, helping group 10 has definitely-nodoubt-handsdown-100% got to be Alvin.

Anyways new bunch of denties and medies started a while back but because of Sem3's end of systems assessment ~~which was shit anyway~~, orientation was stopped for longlong time. Which is part of our reason for being caught as infiltrators/spies before our time was due :(
~~And maybe the fact that some of the orientation officers added some of the jr's onto facebook where all our pictures together were on display. sigh.~~

So yeah, no shock to these people.

We finally got to face the obstacle course down in the car park.

Welcome to first aid training.

okay, no lah not really..just kidding.

more like pictures on how first aid training went hehehe

first aid encompasses early access to the patient, early cpr, early defibrillation if necessary and then followed by early advanced care.

No, i'm no where near smart or intelligent, im just reading off a paper as i type hehehe :D

with an early morning practical class beginning at 9am, followed by a hasty lunch and then exam on what you just learnt, there goes another day to sleep in...

after lunch, while they were all practising, i had a bit of fun.. ~~this is most prolly the reason why i don't feel that good about my practical exam after all =p~~

while yue keng was practising his mouth-to-mouth ~~tongue action~~ rescue breaths,

while kairou was making sure her elbows were locked and fingers intertwined in chest compressions,

and while the REST of the bunch of students were discussing and recapping on all they had learned,

i was doing this...

it was exam time! WHOOPEEE :D

the examiners made us wait outside and come in one by one to perform adult as well as child cpr.

now, when you have a name that starts with A, say maybe Alvin or B like Brandon. even all the way down to N like Nicholas and M like Marcus, take heed from me. COUNT YOUR FREAKING LUCKY STARS!!!

with a name that begins with Y like Yu, you'll wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and go to the toilet and wait and wait and wait and wait AND WAIT SOME MORE!

anyway that aside, we were tested on adult choking and cpr, followed by infant choking and cpr. both were marginally similar with a lil bit of difference here and there. for instance, no blind finger sweep for the babies.

The One with the Happy House Visit.

man, this week's been hectic for most of us here at weloveimu!!

(most of us, i mean everyone except the food OO's ;p meaning marcus and ty hehe)

what with the sem 2's Nursing Week hospital visits, the new juniors having their orientation officially started, running around with icebreakers and treasure hunt along with ~~irritating uncouth unruely bad-mannered offensive annoying station sap-yi masters~~ unavoidable accidents =p we've been really swamped this past week.

but lets just focus on nursing week shall we? ;p a post on the ~~devils~~ orientation will come...in time ~~or maybe not~~

anyway, nursing week is a week long "break" for the semester 2 students to visit 2 hospitals in Negeri 9 working with IMU to get a hands on experience on what teamwork means between nurses, sisters and the hospital staff.

visiting Port Dickson and Tunku Jaafar Hospital was no easy feat, as Alvin found out. Waking at 6am only to realise the bus leaves at 6.15 proved to Alvin that he could arrive in school in 5 minutes TOPS from the time he wakes to the time he parks his car haha

5 minutes. unbelievable? believe it.

freaking posers...isn't that kairou in the middle? hehe :D

upon arrival, and after a "SHORT" briefing by the matron of each hospital, you are then ushered to your respective wards which included male and female multidisciplinary wards, surgical or medical wards, pediatric, Ob-Gyn wards etc.

and then your day involves following your attending nurse around to watch them perform their duties as well as (if you're lucky) help them. at this point i would like to stress how ~~unlucky i am~~ lucky some of my batchmates were =) a few of them got to witness the birth of a child, help in dressing the wounds of a patient and even visit an operating theatre.

side story here, by now im thinking most likely everyone knows that our beloved HANNyee ~~can't speak Bahasa Melayu to save her life~~ only speaks a lil bit of BM..and on her hospital visit, she came along a sign which read "rumah mayat"

HAPPY HOUSE!

but with her ~~limited~~ adequate knowledge on BM, she only understood the word 'rumah'. a dear friend of hers told her that the word 'mayat' meant 'happy', making her translate the whole meaning into "happy house". imagine her surprise entering that room (for those who don't understand it, 'rumah mayat' is the mortuary) thinking of a happy room, with maybe balloons and colourful walls hehe only to find...well here's the part your imagination comes into play

so weird to see this sign in a hospital, isn it? hehe =)

PD hospital is also now a 'baby-friendly' hospital fyi :)

BABY FRIENDLY "practising all 10 steps to successful breastfeeding". ~~what kind of 'friendly' do i need to be to practise successful breastfondling~~?

something really interestin though, in the male multidisciplinary wards, there're special cell rooms where they keep injured convicts

they keep them handcuffed to the beds, in a prison-like-jail, just behind the , oh-so-deceiving room door.

thing is, search the ENTIRE female multidisp ward, and you won't even SEE a door that says cell room, let alone real cells. WHY SO SEXIST, I ASK YOU?!

are we, men, less trustworthy?! shouldn't we ALL have equal rights? haven't the feminine society been fighting for impartiality all this while?! AND NOW THEY DON'T HAVE CELL ROOM?! unfair!! lets start a riot right after the riots for elections are over to right this wrong ;p

Reminders that tell us to always practise the 7 ~~ass moves~~ S moves in managing a patient. smile, greet, fast, sensitive, polite, touch and smart. i bet marcus does number 6 well

then just when we were about to leave, we were all given a little test to see how good our handwashing skills were. they pour some kinda artificial "bacteria" on our hands, little more than fluorescent orange paint to be honest...hehe :D

we washed our hands, then one by one put our hands under a UV light (SO FREAKING COOL BTW, yes yes i know im jakun) to see if there were still trace marks of the "bacteria" left.

then yes..we were graded...with this little piece of paper. satisfactory, fair or unsatisfactory.

and here's my Alvin's grade... 8-)

tsk tsk alvin..only fair? heh heh

we even got to try on plastic bags...pfftt okay fine, they're actually Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) meant for use in the hospital so you don't contract OR bring in any extra diseases in addition to the ones already being suffered by the patient hehe

staff nurse rozaidah teaching us the reasons for proper usage of surgical masks

evidently, we had other reasons on our minds for wearing them

and finally, after putting on ALL the available PPE; gloves, mask and body cover

we looked like we should be selling pork at a market ....

all in all, nursing week was really an eye-opener with alot of new experiences enriching our lives as medical students, making our passion for medicine burn all the more now.

bahh who'm i kidding? this was the highlight of nursing week for me : finding an illustration that looked like a familiar face here at weloveimu

p/s. only kidding =) nursing week was really good in my truthfully brutally honest opinion. sure, there were some sketchy moments but overall, choosing to wake up at 4am to get ready didn't go unrewarded and definitely not regrettable (:
